Successful Annual Fundraiser Supports Farmers’ Health

Attracting a near sell-out crowd, the 13th annual Wine & Cheese Tasting, held on Friday, February 10, 2017 at the Main Event Banquet Hall in Cecil, WI, offered the 188 guests a fun-filled evening. From their first step inside, guests had their choice of oodles of samples, ranging from 40+ kinds of wine, 25+ varieties of cheese, Pigeon River Brewery ales and sodas, as well as the newest vendors—Shawano’s very own 5 Star Lamb and ANEW Emporium.

Matsche Farms Provides Free Flu Shots to Employees

The Rural Health Initiative traveled to Matsche Farms in Birnamwood on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 to administer a flu shot clinic. Management of Matsche Farms provided the flu shot free-of-charge to any of their interested employees – a way to show appreciation for their employees and encourage healthy preventive care. For many of the employees, this was their first time getting a flu vaccine, and the on-site location was 100% ideal.

Choose to Move 5K returns to 2016 Shawano County Fair Lineup

The 2nd annual Choose to Move 5K walk/run returns in a few weeks to provide Shawano County fairgoers of all fitness levels with a healthy opportunity to burn some calories while engaging with health-focused community members. The Choose to Move 5K is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 1, beginning at 6 p.m.

August has arrived. Fair fitness fun awaits.

A fresh new month arrived this morning in its Monday best, vibrantly adorned in bright sunshine and endless possibilities for the upcoming 31 days. While farmers are busy working to get hay off the fields, the staff at the Rural Health Initiative stays busy volunteering, networking, and contributing at ag-related community events. The Choose to Move 5K is the product of collaborative efforts between the Rural Health Initiative, the Waupaca County Fair, local police department and community volunteers. Join us on Sunday, August 28, 2016 for 3.1 miles of fun.

Over 60 participants gathered the morning of Sunday, June 12, 2016 at host farm K & T Dairy in Freedom, WI to explore 3.1 miles of farm life and scenic beauty. It was a great opportunity to see the countryside, just as farmers do everyday. Great job to all participants.
